FOR more than 20 years, the Community Citizen of the Year Awards have provided a platform to recognise individuals and groups that have gone above and beyond for the City of Swan community.
Nominations are now open, creating the perfect opportunity to pause and appreciate those who dedicate their time and energy to others.
Whether that be in education, health, fundraising, voluntary services, business, sport, the arts, the environment, social inclusion or any other area that enhances the wellbeing of our community.
Nominations should be based on an individual or group who has made a significant contribution to the community, demonstrated leadership resulting in the enhancement of community life, implemented a significant initiative that has brought about positive change and added value to community life and inspired the community as a role model.
The four award categories are Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals over 16 years), Young Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals aged 16-30 years), Senior Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals aged 65 years and over) and Active Citizenship (for community groups or events).
City of Swan Mayor Tanya Richardson said the awards were an opportunity to highlight initiatives enriching our community in ways we may not yet realise.
“If a local champion, person, or group springs to mind, please do put them forward. Whether a nominee or recipient, we can all celebrate everyone’s outstanding contribution because we’re all part of the story,” she said.
“Those who don’t ask for thanks and are unmotivated by accolades are often the ones most deserving.
“It’s all too easy to forget in our increasingly fast-paced lives, but a nomination could make all the difference.”
To be eligible, nominees must be nominated by someone else, reside or work principally in the City of Swan, not be a sitting elected official and have made a contribution that is positive, apolitical, and community-focused.
The City of Swan runs and promotes the annual Auspire Community Citizen of the Year Awards, with winners announced as part of the city’s citizenship ceremony in January 2026.
