ELLENBROOK and Aveley Secondary College students have returned with medals and certificates of excellence from the 2025 WorldSkills national championships.
The state’s top vocational talents have returned home after showcasing their vocational education and training in schools (VETiS) skills in Brisbane, competing from June 12-14 and in challenges across a range of industries.
While open categories were available, students from Ellenbrook Secondary College (ESC) and Aveley Secondary College (ASC) competed in the VETiS pool of the competition.
ESC student Kayla Vanos won gold for her work in tourism, while fellow ESC students Brooke Elmer won silver in the same category, Connor Clarke won silver in wall and floor tiling, Archie Babich won bronze for automotive services and Christian Lehmann earned a certificate of excellence for carpentry.
ASC student contenders Elena Loo and Ava Smith also returned with certificates of excellence in bricklaying and food and beverage respectively.
ESC principal Peter Havel said he was amazed, and glad ESC students are continuing to be successful in the WorldSkills space.
“This success acts as standard that draws students into VET and encourages them to work hard to find personal success,” he said.
“It is a vital part of our VET program that we are restoring it to full strength.”
Mr Havel said work placement was a vital part of the VET in schools process which staff members worked hard to secure for students.
“Not only do they get the academic support, but they are also able to gain valuable experience in the workplace,” he said.
“The local businesses continue to provide us with strong support.”
The winners from Swan form part of the 23 total medals won by the state team at this year’s WorldSkills National Championships.
