FOR 17 years now, Best Friends Animal Rescue has been providing a haven for canine friends who have special needs.
And now with a new centre specially for those elderly and special needs dogs, Best Friends president Jeane Howes said they’re looking for volunteers to spend time with the animals.
“We need someone for gardening as well, we need someone helping with the cooking, and most importantly someone coming and spending time with the dogs,” she said.
Ms Howes said there’s no other centre in Perth that specialises in looking after such dogs, and that the centre also helps find new homes for the dogs through their foster program.
But the Best Friends Animal Rescue foster program differs from the rest – the organisation will pay vet bills for the forever foster carer.
“People who are going to look after dogs – elderly dogs for the rest of their life – we pay their vet bills, which helps with seniors because a lot of seniors don’t have money for those kind of bills – dogs are very expensive,” she said.
Ms Howes also said there are currently 25 dogs in their care, and when possible, they treat the ailments on the dogs with natural methods.
