A FOOD relief initiative operating in Swan View has distributed nearly 7000 pizzas to community members over the past three years.
The Greenmount Community Pantry, run by charity Feed it Forward and local volunteers, receives a weekly delivery of 30 pizzas from the nearby Swan View Domino’s.
Domino’s Swan View co-owners Isaac Jarret and Bianca Lloyd established the program to support residents accessing local relief services.
Mr Jarret said the volunteer-led group provides essential support for people doing it tough right across the state.
“They’re an organisation throughout WA that actually help people in need across the entire state,” he said.
“They’re really trying to help people who are doing it tough, especially with the current economic climate, and they also help engage with elderly centres in need.”
Mr Jarret, who grew up in Glen Forrest and started as a delivery driver in Kalamunda before buying into the business alongside Ms Lloyd, said the initiative was set up to give back to the region that backed their journey.
“I wanted to figure out a way where I could actually consistently help the community that has put me in the position I am today,” he said.
“The volunteers at Feed it Forward give up their time every single week just to be helping others, and for me, that just really inspired me, and I wanted to make sure I could do something to at least match that.”
The weekly Tuesday donations are prepared around regular store prep by current and past leadership team members who have helped drive the initiative over the years.
“They’ve really just gone out of their way, essentially just to do the right thing because they know it’s the right thing to do,” Mr Jarret said.
“It’s one of the sayings we have in store - do the right thing because it’s the right thing to do - and they really lived by that.”
Both owners have led the ongoing coordination with the pantry team, with the duo recently expanding their donations to cover community groups across the Perth Hills, including Kalamunda.
The Greenmount Community Pantry currently relies on local partnerships and volunteer effort to keep its food relief service running across Swan View, Midland, and the Perth Hills.
