STUDENTS and staff at Glen Forrest Primary School are set to benefit from new state-of-the-art facilities, with the tender released for construction of an $11.9 million kindergarten and pre-primary block.

The new facilities - which will accommodate 95 students - will replace ageing infrastructure and include four classrooms, kitchen and storage, staff and student toilets, an assisted access toilet, and an office.

The buildings are planned to fit within the school’s existing landscape, providing a natural environment for children in their early years of development.

Accessibility will also be improved on site, with provision for ramped access and an accessible toilet.

The facilities have been designed by Paterson Architects, with the building contract expected to be awarded in December.

Education Minister Sabine Winton said every child deserves to learn in welcoming and fit-for-purpose facilities.

“This project will ensure students have the environment they need to learn, play, and thrive and provide a contemporary learning environment, designed to better support the youngest learners at Glen Forrest Primary School,” she said.

“The Cook Labor government is committed to giving students the best possible start to their education, and I look forward to seeing this project progress to construction.”

Midland-based MLC Klasey Hirst said Glen Forrest Primary School was an important part of the local community.

“It’s fantastic to see these upgrades moving another step closer. These new facilities will give local children a modern place to learn in their earliest years at school,” she said.

“I know local families want to see their schools supported as their communities grow and change, and I am excited to see construction on this project progress.”
