As Mundaring’s Trish Cook steps down from her role as deputy shire president, she steps into her federal role as the first Bullwinkel representative.

FORMER Shire of Mundaring deputy president Trish Cook formally resigned from council at the end of May following her election as the representative for Bullwinkel.

The AEC officially declared Ms Cook as the first member of Bullwinkel on May 28 which prompted the resignation of her role as Shire of Mundaring councillor and deputy shire president.

A new deputy shire president will be selected at the June ordinary council meeting to serve through to the local government elections in October.

In a post on her official Facebook account, Ms Cook said she was proud to support the Mundaring community as a councillor and deputy shire president.

“I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together - from the Darlington Community Garden to the Mundaring Sports Arena and the Boya Library,” she said.

“I’m excited to continue advocating for our region as the member for Bullwinkel in Parliament.”

The Shire of Mundaring also notified the community on May 28 of Ms Cook’s resignation through their official account and thanked her for her time in council.

“Shire of Mundaring extends its heartfelt thanks to Cr Trish Cook, who has formally resigned from Council following her election as the Member for Bullwinkel,” they said.

“Councillor Cook served the community with dedication across two terms, from 2013 to 2017 and again from 2021 to 2025.

“She served as deputy shire president from 2023 until her resignation earlier today.

“We warmly congratulate (Ms Cook) on her election and look forward to the benefits her advocacy will bring including $3.9 million upgrades to local bushfire brigades and $1.2m for battery backups at telecommunications towers.

“We also look forward to a continued relationship with Trish as she represents the broader region of Bullwinkel.”

Shire of Mundaring President Paige McNeil said Ms Cook was a passionate and hardworking representative who always put her community first.

“On behalf of council, I thank her for her years of service and wish her every success in federal parliament,” she said.
