A thought-provoking exhibition exploring how everyday fabrics hold human history and emotion is making its debut at the Zig Zag Gallery in Kalamunda.
Titled Memory and Cloth, the showcase brings together collaborative works by artists Joy Denise Scott and Anne Farren to examine memory as a fragile, layered, and deeply personal phenomenon through the tactile mediums of stitch, cloth, and making.
Rather than viewing garments purely as functional items, the duo treats woven structures as physical repositories for person narratives, nostalgia, and lived experiences that quietly shape individual identity.
Each featured piece in the gallery uses delicate textures, intricate patterns, and specialised construction methods to give physical form to unspoken personal histories and quiet reflections.
An official opening event was held on Saturday, September 26 and gave visitors an early preview of the collection alongside both artists prior to the exhibition’s opening.
Throughout the showcase, visitors can also participate in interactive public programming running alongside the display, including open stitching sessions and artist talks designed to offer a deeper look into contemporary textile techniques.
The exhibition is running from September 27 to October 18 and can be visited at Zig Zag Cultural Centre at 50 Railway Road, Kalamunda.
The gallery is open from 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday, and from 10am to 4pm on weekends.
