INSTITUTE for Respiratory Health, renowned for its leadership in respiratory clinical trials across WA for more than 20 years, has opened its new state-of-the-art clinical trial research centre in Midland, and is looking for volunteers.
“We’re looking for volunteers aged between 18 to 80 who have a chronic lung condition and would like to participate in potentially life-changing research,” clinical trials manager Meagan Shorten said.
“With chronic lung diseases being one of the leading causes of death in Australia, the need for more research to discover new treatments has never been more vital.
“We know many people are living with chronic lung conditions like asthma, COPD, bronchiectasis and IPF in the Midland area and we wanted to provide a dedicated centre that they could easily visit rather than having to travel to our research centre in Nedlands.
“Patients can now be the first to benefit from new and emerging treatments and their participation helps others with lung conditions too.”
The Institute for Respiratory Health has worked with more than 2400 volunteers over the past two decades. It has conducted more than 250 research studies across asthma, COPD, Covid-19 and cystic fibrosis to name a few.
“We have a strong track record of success, outstanding facilities, world-class respiratory doctors and nurses and like to lead the way in clinical trials,” Ms Shorten said.
“We’re incredibly fortunate to have the expertise of well-known respiratory physician Dr David Manners, who serves as the principal investigator for all of our clinical trials in Midland.
“Our research has contributed to the introduction of life-saving medicines like Trikafta for patients with cystic fibrosis. Patients right here in Western Australia participated in this study and the drug wouldn’t be available today without clinical trials. Which is why the work we do is so crucial.”
This strategic expansion brings cutting-edge research and innovative treatments closer to the local community, addressing the urgent need for new cures and therapies for chronic lung diseases.
