WOOROLOO Hall is set for a new chapter, with major renovation works now underway to revitalise one of the community’s most cherished gathering places.

Over the coming months, the historic hall will receive significant upgrades including a new roof, flooring, kitchen, toilets and improved insulation, ensuring the facility continues to serve residents and community groups for many years to come.

The upgrades represent one of the most substantial improvements to the hall in recent decades.

While the renovations are taking place, the hall’s regular users have been finding creative ways to stay connected.

One group particularly looking forward to the upgraded space is the Wooroloo Craft, Chat & Cuppa (WCCC), a community initiative that brings residents together for weekly craft sessions and monthly shared dinners.

The group was established in the wake of the 2021 bushfires and has become an important source of friendship, creativity and connection for residents.

According to WCCC organiser Stephen Fox, the temporary disruption will be well worth it.

“As a community member, I’m delighted that the hall is getting a major overhaul,” Mr Fox said.

“I’m delighted that we now understand the scale of the improvements, including a new floor, insulation, roof, kitchen and toilets. A slightly better kitchen will be an enormous benefit for our community dinners and gatherings.”

In a heartwarming example of neighbours helping neighbours, the nearby Wooroloo Bush Fire Brigade has opened its doors to accommodate the group’s weekly gatherings during the renovation period.

The shire has also provided a sea container on-site to safely store the group’s extensive collection of craft supplies and materials.

Wooroloo Bush Fire Brigade first lieutenant Lesley Lynam said supporting the community group was an easy decision.

“That’s what we do. It’s not just about firefighting, it’s about the community,” she said.

“When you can do anything that helps the community in any way, you do it. The brigade is part of the community and the community is part of the brigade, so we’re just one piece of the puzzle that makes it all work.”

The arrangement means WCCC members can continue meeting locally, maintaining the social connections that have become so important to many residents while work progresses on the hall.

The group is already planning a special thank you gift for brigade members once the project is complete.

For Mr Fox, the project is about more than upgraded facilities.

“It’s time for an upgrade, and we’re very excited for the community,” he said.

“We’ve had weddings, funerals, celebrations and community activities here over the years. The hall is a real hub for Wooroloo, and we’re looking forward to seeing it continue that role for future generations.”
