WUTHERING Heights fans have the chance again to take part in a Kate Bush inspired flashmob out on the wily windy moors of Middle Swan.
Participants don a red dress and frosty green eye shadow and recreate the song’s striking 1978 video.
Wuthering Heights Day is a global event where people dress up as Kate Bush on or around her July 30th birthday.
The event will take place in the grounds of the Swan Italian Club on Saturday, July 18 from 2.30pm.
People are asked to donate, to dance and support a refreshment stall and raffle.
Co-organiser Steph Radis said last year’s event held in Guildford attracted around 100 Cathys of all ages.
Through the flashmob Mrs Radis raises money for Lung Foundation Australia in honour of her husband Chris who was diagnosed with lung cancer and sadly passed away in 2021.
It was during her husband’s time living with lung cancer that she followed Lung Foundation Australia on Facebook and discovered it offered her valuable information and guidance.
After Chris passed away, her friend Hazel mentioned there was a Kate Bush Wuthering Heights Day cancer fundraiser in Bunbury.
“Hazel and I have always liked Kate Bush’s music and when we heard there was a whole event around it, we couldn’t get in the car quickly enough,” she said.
“We loved the wonderful vibe at the event and meeting all the other Cathy/Kates for a good cause.”
It was this event that sparked Mrs Radis’ own inspiration to organise her own Wuthering Heights Day fundraiser.
“We held the first event in 2023 and started fundraising for Lung Foundation Australia in honour of Chris.
“We didn’t know if 10 or 100 Kates would show up but Hazel and I wanted to do something to raise awareness about lung cancer and lung disease in general.
“Chris loved music and volunteered his time for community groups. I know he would love that this event is in his honour and raising money for lung cancer research.”
The event has grown each year and Mrs Radis says the highlight is seeing people from all walks of life come to celebrate.
“There are plenty of videos online posted to our Facebook page that teach the moves to the song.
“But it’s really just a bit of fun, open to all ages and levels of fitness.”
The event will be presented by Cocoz Radio, an internet streaming station she founded in Chris’s honour.
