ELLENBROOK Dockers Junior Football Club player Charlotte Guthrie became the first female to reach 100 games for her club on August 8 after their win against Mt Hawthorn.

The Ellenbrook Year 9-10 female purple team were able to win against the Mt Hawthorn Year 9-10 female team 40 points to 21.

Charlotte said it was a great privilege to be the first female player to reach 100 games for her club.

“(I felt) very honoured,” she said.

“Ellenbrook Dockers Junior Football Club has very strong female football program so being first is quite special.”

Charlotte’s coach Rob Macri oversees the training of the Ellenbrook Year 9-10 female purple team and said she had come a long way.

“She was very timid, a bit shy, but she’s come out of her shell a lot,” he said.

“She is still quiet, but she’s not shy and she’s not scared to give her opinion either.

“She’s our deputy vice-captain this year.”

Mr Macri said Charlotte’s commitment to the game helped her achieve her 100th game and was testament to her dedication.

“As far as I can remember, she’s never missed a training session and she’s only ever missed the one game because our fixture was changed to clash with her HBF run for a reason,” he said.

“So she still did something on the day but wasn’t able to play.

“She actually got an award as well on Friday night: she was one of the best on the ground.

“So, she had a great game and it just happened to be her 100th.”

Charlotte said her milestone was a reminder of what devotion could earn and the aspect of the sport that kept her passionate was friendship and the road to finals.

“Because of my knee issues I have struggled to become one of the very good players, so the milestone is a reward for perseverance,” she said.

“I like being part of a team, making friendships and being part of the team’s leadership group in recent years.

“I’m looking forward to playing in the finals this year and because I don’t think my knees will allow me to progress to a higher level, I will just focus on getting through to the end of Year 12 with the club.

“I have been lucky to have very good coaches during my 100 games starting with Glenn, then Fiona and now, for the last five years, Rob and Kim – thank you, guys.”
