THE Kalamunda Cricket Club (KCC) hosted an event on Monday, August 17 to celebrate its recent awards and community support at Kostera Oval.

Earlier this year, the club received the WA Cricket community partnership of the year award and the Cricket Australia community cricket partnership of the year for the club’s work with Blind Sports WA.

A Kalamunda Cricket Club spokesperson said the achievements wouldn’t have been possible without the community’s support.

“The night was to thank all of the people who have helped us on the journey including members of the City of Kalamunda, local councillors, local MPs, our club sponsors and the other groups we share the facility with like Kalamunda Lesmurdie Little Athletics, The Kalamunda Lapidary Club, Kalamunda Districts Junior Football Club and the Kalamunda Senior High School,” they said.

The club was first established in 1904 and throughout the years it has cemented its place in the community.

“Following a record-breaking 2025/26 season, we proudly boast more than 460 registered players and participants, making us one of the largest and fastest-growing community cricket clubs in the state,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson also said the club has placed a big emphasis on inclusion and accessibility, providing programs for everyone from children taking their first steps into cricket, to junior development, women’s social cricket, senior turf, astro turf competition and masters cricket.

The club has also been endorsed by Autism WA and has ongoing partnerships to promote mental health and wellbeing.

“With the club’s energy being invested into the value of being a positive contributor in the community, playing cricket has actually become a by-product of what we do… Jokingly we share a saying that ‘we are a community club with a cricket problem’,” the spokesperson said.

Despite its growth, the club has recently faced some challenges with overcapacity due to its limited facilities, needing more funding and lighting issues.

“Hopefully, what we have achieved, sparks some interest in improving the facility for all, so that we can continue to grow and continue to do what we do in and with the community. The connection with people, the creation of a place where so many of us belong, far outweighs the runs or wickets or the goals kicked on a weekend,” the spokesperson said.
