In the first Hills Football Association semifinal Chidlow defeated Gidgegannup 13.9 (87) to 12.10 (82) while Pickering Brook were 11.11 (77) to 9.19 (73) winners against Swan View in the second semifinal.

In the first game Chidlow hung on to record a five-point win over a fast finishing Gidgegannup.

The Cougars were first to impact the scoreboard after Steven Schorer cleared the ball forward to where Shane Fitzgerald marked and converted his kick on goal.

Jarrad Young’s solid work around the contests helped slow the Cougars down and keep his team in the game but Chidlow held a slender three-point lead at the first break.

Chidlow came out strong in the second quarter, Luke Elliott started to dominate across the half forward line while Zane Lyall collected several intercept marks in his backline.

A six goal to two second quarter saw the Cougars lead out to 28 points as Shane Fitzgerald added another three goals.

Alan Rigg, Josh Carter and Cameron Hore combined in their backline to slow down the Cougars advances.

The third quarter became an arm wrestle with the Bulldogs managing to slow Chidlow down but they weren’t able to cut into the deficit.

Gidgegannup had 25 minutes to keep their season alive, they attacked the ball with a renewed vigour, Riley Marriott spent more time forward where he had an immediate impact kicking a few quick goals.

Liam Marriott and Jarad Young kept driving the ball forward.

Tim Tanner and Dylan Cahill were offered up as targets.

The Bulldogs were still coming hard when the final siren sounded, falling short by five points.

The second semifinal was another close affair with Pickering Brook getting home by four points.

Brett Wolfenden had the first goal on the board for the Hawks as they continued to push hard out of the centre mainly due to the strong work of Luke Outridge and Steven Caccetta.

At the first siren the Hawks held a 19-point lead.

The Swans came out after the break full of run as they continued to attack their goals with inaccuracy managing two goals from nine attempts.

Jackson Ryan was almost impassable across half back as he dragged in several intercept marks.

Bradley Jetta and Rudy Riddoch began to impact around the contests.

Kane Higgins provided a target up forward to deliver a goal.

By the main break the Swans had reduced the deficit to four points.

The game was in the balance as Swan View kept attacking the goals in the third quarter, Rudy Riddoch along with Dane Rossen joined the goal scorers.

Josh Hollingum picked up several possessions driving his team into attack.

Joseph Butler was solid in defence.

If not for some errant kicking they would have had a better than 12-point lead at the last break.

With all the momentum with the Swans the Hawks needed to dig deep if they were going to stay in the game.

That they did as Michael Brescasin converted a kick from deep in his right forward pocket.

Jarrod Brockbernd pushed himself to get involved in the play while Jamie Socklich also helped get the ball forward from the contests.

This weekend Swan View will up against Chidlow in the preliminary final at Mundaring recreation ground.
