THE annual Hartfield Senior Classic golf event saw a great turnout of 80 players with great weather one day and more challenging conditions the next day.
The golfers enjoyed perfect weather on the first morning, which made for an excellent start to the tournament.
After the first round, the men’s gross leader was Nigel Barnes from Wanneroo with a score of 72, closely followed by Paul Chappell from Hartfield with 73 strokes.
In the ladies’ division, Janice Gaudet from Lake Karrinyup Country Club led with a score of 85, while Shirley Van Der Brugghen was hot on her heels with 86.
In the men’s stableford, Vince Tuck and Graham Endersby tied on 34 points after the first round.
For the ladies, Karen Melville and Janet Grimoldby were neck and neck, each scoring 30 points, while Linda D’Abbs trailed closely behind with 29.
The weather on the second day proved to be much more challenging, with a strong and gusty breeze making the game more difficult.
Barnes achieved a score of 71 on the final day, which made him the winner of the men’s gross.
Shirley Van Der Brugghen emerged as the winner of the ladies’ gross, scoring 84, while Janice Gaudet finished with 88.
In the stableford side, Phillip MacDonald pulled off a come-from-behind win with a score of 68 points, followed by Mike Conroy, and Ivor Ladwig in third place with 61 points.
Karen Melville was the winner of the ladies’ stableford with 35 points, beating Janet Grimoldby of Cottesloe by only one point with a combined score of 67 points.
