THE first round of two-day fixtures for male sides saw a strong showing for many Midland Guildford teams, while the female sides experienced a mixture of results this weekend.

The male 1st grade side suffered a heavy defeat against South Perth, while the male 2nd grade managed a thrilling victory by 26 runs against their South Perth opposition.

In challenging conditions, Hayden Kain (66 runs from 121 balls) and Kelly Jones (42 from 87) helped the side post a total of 144 all out.

Matthew Harben (4-39 from 20 overs) and Ben Skinner (3-27 from 13 overs) were the standout performers with the ball helping dismiss South Perth for 118.

The female A grade lost by seven wickets against Subiaco Floreat, while the female B grade defeated their Subiaco Floreat opposition by seven wickets.

The male 3rd grade secured a narrow three-run victory in dramatic fashion as they defended a score of 186.

Jack Giancono (4-64 from 26 overs) was the standout bowler, while a 59-run partnership for the 10th wicket between Will Shackles (46 from 47) and Jacob Heslop (24 not out from 55) proved pivotal with the narrow margin.

The male 4th grade also enjoyed victory against South Perth with Haydn Lucas (56 from 95) being the main contributor in chasing the target of 224, which the side managed with three wickets to spare.

The female U17 had a close contest against Subiaco Floreat resulting in them chasing down a target of 117 with two wickets in hand.

A bowling effort led by Daena Master (4-18 from six overs), followed by a run chase that featured Rebekah Farr scoring 45 from 41, which propelled the side to the victory.

The male U17 posted a strong total of 8-232 against South Perth and defended the score comfortably as they dismissed their opposition for just 167.

Kobe Fernie starred with the ball as he took 5-15 from five overs to lead his side to victory.

The male U15 fell narrowly short in their run chase against the same opponents as they lost by seven runs while chasing a target of 270 for victory.

Bandhanpreet Swan (77 from 96) and Aravnid Anoop (62 from 69) were the standouts in the losing effort.

The male U14 remained undefeated to begin the season as they defeated Scarborough by 16 runs, while the male U13 fell short against the same opposition as they lost by six wickets.
