OVER Friday and Saturday the Hills Football Association (HFA) representative team competed in the Nutrien AG country football carnival.

On Friday, the HFA team played against the Mortlock Football League (FL) team and North Pilbara FL.

HFA weren’t able to come away with the win on the first day, with Mortlock defeating the hills team 7.11 (53) to 5.1 (31), and North Pilbara winning 7.9 (51) to 6.1 (37).

By the end of first half, Mortlock held a 17-point lead, and at the end of the game, Mortlock won by 22 points.

Against North Pilbara, HFA held the lead during half time, having scored 24 points to North Pilbara’s 16.

North Pilbara then rallied in the second half to a 14-point lead win over HFA by the end of the match.

On Saturday’s first game, HFA scored their first victory with a 12.5 (65) win over North Midlands FL’s 2.3 (15).

Half time saw HFA ahead with 32 points against North Midlands’ 13 points and they then continued to build momentum until a victorious finish.

In the second game, HFA defeated Central Wheatbelt FL 7.3 (45) to 3.3 (21).

Central Wheatbelt played competitively with the two teams at an even 8 points apiece by the 20-minute mark of the first half before a goal in the final minutes gave Wheatbelt a 14-point lead.

Hills rallied early with a goal about two minutes into the second half and ran away with the game as their momentum proved too much for their opponents to overcome.

The final was played between the Mortlock FL and North Pilbara FL with the North Pilbara team winning the division final.

The HFA team was well represented by all clubs in the association.

Five of the six club captains were among the squad and were commended for playing with distinction and leading by example after being chosen to represent their respective clubs.

Best players over the carnival were Midland Tigers players Denver Roberts and Niklas Geracitano, Pickering Brook Hawks player Adam McKinlay, Chidlow Cougars player Steven Schorer, co-captains Chidlow Cougar Jake Forman and Mt Helena Lion Charlie Read, Mundaring Roos Oli Aitken and Dylan O’Loghlen, Gidgegannup Bulldog Liam Marriott and Chidlow Cougar Matt Mallaby.
