INCLUSIVE sport was at the heart of Mundaring Arena last week, as the community came together to launch the Sport4All program and celebrate a shared commitment to making sport accessible to everyone.

Community members, sporting clubs and local leaders gathered for a breakfast event to celebrate the start of the initiative, which aims to make sport more inclusive for people of all abilities.

The program will be led locally by local Mt Helena resident Michael Bourgault du Coudray, an elite swimmer and experienced coach with lived experience of disability. He officially launched the initiative alongside Sport4All State Manager Carina McMillen.

Sport4All supports clubs and organisations to create welcoming environments where everyone can take part in sport, regardless of ability.

Shire President Paige McNeil said the program reflects how inclusion enriches sport and brings the community together.

“By supporting the Sports4All program, we help strengthen our community, ensuring it’s a place where everyone is welcomed, included, and able to play the sports they love, while sharing in the connection and belonging that community sport brings.” she said

“I’d like to thank Michael and the Sport4All team for introducing this program to our community. We look forward to seeing the positive change that this partnership offers and the opportunities it will create for our local sporting clubs across the shire.”

Michael Bourgault du Coudray said the program is focused on creating real change at a local level.

“Sport has the power to connect people and build confidence, but only if everyone has the chance to be involved,” he said.

“This program is about working with clubs and the community to make that a reality, creating more opportunities for everyone to take part in sport.”

Sport4All state manager Carina McMillen said the strong turnout reflected the community’s commitment to inclusion.

“It’s fantastic to see such strong support here in Mundaring. This is exactly what Sport4All is about, communities coming together to make sport more inclusive and accessible,” she said.

“We’re excited to work alongside the shire and local clubs to create lasting change and ensure everyone has a place in sport.”

Shire of Mundaring continues to support programs and partnerships that strengthen inclusion and ensure community spaces and activities are open to everyone.

Sport4All builds on this commitment by working directly with clubs, coaches and volunteers to remove barriers and create more inclusive sporting opportunities.

Attendees included Klasey Hirst MLC, Anthony Spagnolo MLC, Kalamunda MLA Adam Hort, shire president Paige McNeil, councillor Toni Strutt, CEO Jason Whiteaker and representatives from community groups and sporting clubs from across the shire.
