A YOUNG Kalamunda Districts Rugby Union Club member will lead the Western Force U16 as captain for round two following a victory against the Brumbies.

The U16 team are coming off an impressive 19-18 win over the ACT Brumbies, headlined by two tries from captain Dozion Laupama during round one.

Laupama is a player from the Kalamunda Districts Rugby Union Club (KDRUC) who was selected as part of the Western Force squad as reported in Young athletes play for Western Force.

Fellow KDRUC U16 player Fatani Fatanitavake will also be playing as a starter for the upcoming U16 game.

In collaboration with RugbyWA, the Force U16 and U19 will compete in the five-team Super Rugby pathways competition, offering key opportunities to develop the next wave of emerging WA talent.

The Force will face the Melbourne Rebels on Saturday at La Trobe’s University Sports Park in Melbourne, with the U16s kicking off at 9.35am followed by the U19 from 11.35am WST.

Western Force U16 team coach Gavin Laycock said both boys from Kalamunda were a credit to the area and the club that they came from.

“Dozion plays a loose head position and his contact skills and work ethic are really impressive,” he said.

“I’m super impressed with who they are as people — they’re both fantastic athletes on the field and awesome individuals off the field.

The Western Force U19 team were downed 53-23 by the reigning champion Brumbies in a clash last Sunday and will be looking to bounce back.
