MAIDA Vale Masters swimming club’s annual Lake Leschenaultia swim was another great success this year, with more than 200 swimmers registering for the race.
Maida Vale Masters club president Andrea Williams said many competitors had never seen Lake Leschenaultia before.
“Many were suitably impressed by this lovely jewel of nature in the hills,” she said.
Competitors ranged in age from 11 to 85 years old, and Ms Williams said everyone enjoyed the day.
2024 will be the club’s 38th year running the swim event in the lake, which is sponsored by Healthway.
Ms Williams said one of the main aims of promoting swimming in the community was to highlight the benefits of swimming for mental health.
She said the Lake Leschenaultia swim ticked all the boxes of having fun, getting fit and enjoying a unique experience with an open and supportive group of people, all while enjoying a beautiful outdoor venue in the heart of the Perth Hills.
The event was part of the WOW Swims events calendar, an initiative run from November to March each year by Masters Swimming WA under the banner of Act, Belong, Commit.
The calendar comprises six open water swims in different locations around Perth including Coogee, Fremantle, Matilda Bay and Lake Leschenaultia.
Each race offers a different challenge to competitors, from a river swim to open ocean, and includes three different race lengths, encouraging everyone from the weekend swimmer to the experienced competitor to take part.
WOW swims were designed as a community swim series to get more people in the water and are open to anyone.
