MGCC cricket season starts

The opening round of the 2024-2025 season for Midland Guildford saw a handful of matches take place over the weekend.

THE opening round of the 2024-2025 season for Midland Guildford Cricket Club got underway last weekend including the male 1st grade side having a 157-run victory against Gosnells.

The main contributors in that match were Austin Thomas with 60 runs from 60 balls and Lachlan Pratt with three wickets for 17 runs from 8.3 overs.

Jordan Roads and Keaton Critchell both scored 49 runs, while Regan Hill, Hudson Knight and Matt Russo all took two wickets in the match.

The side would manage 9-272 from their 50 overs and dismissed Gosnells for a total of just 115 runs.

The male 2nd grade, male 3rd grade and male 4th grade all saw their matches abandoned due to the weather in the week leading up to round 1.

The female A grade began their premiership defence with back-to-back victories in their double header against South Perth and Wanneroo.

In the match against South Perth, Makayla Hendry was the pick of the bowlers with 4-10 off four overs as the side restricted their opponents to all out for 107.

It would take just 10.2 overs to chase the score with Abbie Whybrow the leading scorer with an unbeaten 45 off 25 as they won by nine wickets.

The second match was dominated by Ines McKeon who scored an unbeaten 85 off 59 as the side managed to score 5-135 off 20 overs.

A collective bowling effort would see them dismiss Wanneroo for a total of 90 as four bowlers would take two wickets each.

The female B grade lost to Perth by six wickets in their opening match of the season.

The male U17 won against Gosnells after a man of the match performance from Jaxon Ozanne (58 not out from 53, 3-16 off three overs), while the male U15 lost to the same opposition.

The female U17 won both of their opening fixtures with strong performances against South Perth and Subiaco Floreat.
