COMBAT athletes from Midland’s Mad Dog Martial Arts have been on a winning streak, scoring an impressive two wins in two weeks during their fights in February.

From debut nerves to stunning knockouts, the team’s fighters are proving they’re a force to be reckoned with.

On February 15 Midland Mad Dog martial artist Dylan Pollard made his debut at the Inception promotion fight event against Joe Merendino from Pursuit Muay Thai.

Mad Dog Martial Arts coach Slade Hutcheson said with the Mad Dog team backing him up, Pollard warmed up with focus, even with his opponent and team sitting right beside him.

“Both fighters stepped into the ring for their very first bout, and while the nerves were definitely there, Dylan kept his cool,” he said.

Round one was a close call, with both fighters coming out strong but by round two and three, Pollard found his rhythm.

He showcased his power with a strong cross and commanding push kicks, while keeping control in the clinch and not letting Merendino take over.

“It was a fantastic debut, with Dylan walking away victorious and proving that nerves can be turned into strength,” Mr Hutcheson said.

A week later on February 22 the Mad Dog team competed in the Muay Thai Super Series.

This time it was Mad Dog Martial Arts’ Jack Vostan who scored a victory with his performance.

Facing off against Pichitchai product Landen Watterson, Vostan wasted no time making his presence known.

After a powerful elbow in the second round, Watterson was sent to the canvas in a knockout blow that had the crowd roaring.

“It wasn’t just the knockout that had people talking,” Mr Hutcheson said.

“Jack’s precision and timing were on full display as he controlled the fight from start to finish.

“It was clear that his relentless training had paid off, and the win was a sweet reward for his hard work.”

It was a victory that took the decision away from the judges, adding a notch to Vostan’s achievements after his decision win last year as reported in Midland’s Mad Dog kickboxers take home the trophy (Echo News, July 19, 2024).

Mr Hutcheson said he had to credit a massive part of the Mad Dog team’s success to the mentorship and coaching from his fellow coaches Shell Read and Ashraf Farawah.

Mr Farawah is also an athlete competing for the Mad Dog gym, having made a successful MMA debut in November last year as reported in Midland’s MMA shines at Domination promotions (Echo News, December 20, 2024).

“These coaches have been instrumental in guiding their fighters, pushing them to their limits, and shaping them into top-tier competitors,” Mr Hutcheson said.

“Their expertise, dedication, and unwavering belief in the team have made all the difference, and the results speak for themselves.

“With such strong leadership, the Mad Dog Martial Arts team is poised for even greater success in the future.

“With two wins in two weeks, the team is on a roll and showing no signs of slowing down.

“Keep your eyes on these rising stars – they’re only getting started.”
