IT was an exciting weekend of finals matches for Midland Guildford with the female A grade playing Subiaco Floreat in the grand final and the male 4th grade playing Fremantle in the semi final.
Playing at the WACA ground in the 50 over grand final against Subiaco Floreat, the female A grade side lost the toss and batted first.
It was a challenging innings for the team with Chloe Piparo being the lone standout scoring 53 runs from 57 balls.
The team was only able to manage a total of 140 all out from 38 overs as they were dismissed for a modest total.
In the second innings, Sheldyn Cooper and Shay Manolini managed a wicket each but it was not enough as their opposition chased the target in 32 overs with eight wickets remaining.
It was a disappointing finish for the female A grade, but it was a strong season regardless which saw them take out 1st position on the regular season ladder in both formats.
In the semi final of the male 4th grade competition, the team found themselves in early trouble as Fremantle took early wickets to leave the side 3-13 and later 5-63.
It was a vital partnership of 93 runs between Oliver Voorn and Lucas Walker that took the score to 6-156, before Walker was dismissed on 45 from 116.
Voorn would go on to produce a sublime century with 101 from 183 with eight fours and a six.
From their 80 overs, the side would finish with 9-235 in a remarkable comeback from the early struggles they were facing.
As the second innings began, the side were able to restrict their opponents immediately, with the score being 4-28 from 24 overs at lunch.
This would later become 7-60 and after a short resurgence from the opposition, the team would dismiss their opponents for 148 all out to secure an 87-run victory and a spot in the grand final.
Ashley Mucciarone produced a phenomenal spell of bowling with 28 consecutive overs and figures of 4-56 along with 12 maidens.
This proved crucial in the victory along with the contributions from the other bowlers including Matthew Hampson (2-41 from 15 overs) and Matthew Barrington (2-25 from 10 overs).
This result means that the male 4th grade side will have the opportunity to play against Wanneroo in the grand final at Lark Hill Sporting Complex on Saturday, March 29 and Sunday, March 30.
