Mixed results in cricket round four

Midland Guildford Cricket Club saw mixed results this week, with both strong performances and tough defeats across the various grades.

THERE was a variety of notable performances for Midland Guildford Cricket Club in the latest round of matches.

The male 1st grade side fell short against Willetton despite the contributions of Jacob Heslop with 4-40 from 10 overs and Tom Gosling with 3-33 from nine overs in the bowling innings.

They failed to chase the target of 222 for victory, falling short by 94 runs.

In the male 3rd grade match against the same opposition, a well-rounded bowling contribution led by Jack Markham with 2-11 from five overs which restricted their opponents to 5-144 from 38 overs.

The run chase was led by Jordan Mast with 57 runs from 58 balls and Clayton Thomas with 53 from 94 as they won by three wickets with seven balls to spare.

The male 2nd grade and male 4th grade matches at Burrendah Park were both abandoned due to the conditions.

It was a double-header of T20 matches for the female A grade as they played against Melville and Rockingham-Mandurah.

The side managed a four run victory in the first match after posting 3-128 with Veronica Keen top scoring with 43 not out from 47, before they restricted Melville to 5-124 in the second innings.

The second match was a five wicket defeat as the team only scored 6-90 from their 20 overs before Rockingham-Mandurah chased the target with nine balls remaining.

The premier T20 side played against Fremantle and posted 6-175 from their 20 overs in the first innings.

Calan Hill top scored for the side with 61 from 40 as contributions from Jordan Roads, 28 from 17, and Max Bittner, 36 from 22, were also valuable to the large total.

They restricted their opponents to 5-140 and secured a comfortable 35 run victory.

All teams will be looking for some positive results in their upcoming fixtures this weekend.
