KALAMUNDA Districts Netball Association (KDNA) has welcomed Kate Overton as its new president who will step into her role ahead of the 2026 season.
Overton succeeds outgoing president Nicole McKennay, whose more than 20 years of service has played a significant role in shaping the association into a cornerstone of community sport in the region.
“Nicole’s impact on this association can’t be overstated,” Ms Overton said.
“Two decades of commitment is something really special, and we’re all benefiting from the foundations she’s built.”
A familiar face within the local netball community, Ms Overton brings extensive experience to the role as a former Phoenix Netball Club president, a current umpire, and has spent many years coaching and playing the game.
Professionally, she works for one of Australia’s largest technology companies and is focused on bringing practical innovation into community sport.
“We know volunteers are the backbone of community sport, but we also know it’s getting harder to fill those roles,” she said.
“There’s a real opportunity to use technology and smarter systems to better support our people and make it easier to get involved.”
KDNA is also pleased to welcome Helena Valley Netball Club to the association, further strengthening participation across the district.
Looking ahead, Ms Overton said a key priority will be engaging directly with members to shape the association’s future.
“We’ll be going out to our community and asking for honest feedback — what’s working, what’s not, and where we need to be better,” she said.
“That will directly inform our strategic plan and the direction we take from here.
“We also want to work closely with our clubs, families and local community leaders to build an association that is inclusive, sustainable and built to last.”
Ms Overton said the association’s direction closely aligns with Netball WA’s THINK 2030 vision, particularly in growing participation, improving member experience and strengthening inclusion at all levels of the game.
“From participation and inclusion through to better experiences for our members, we’re all moving in the same direction - and that’s a really powerful place to be,” she said.
While continuing to support women and girls in sport, KDNA is also committed to expanding opportunities for boys and men to participate.
“We want everyone to feel like they have a place in netball,” Overton said.
“That’s how we grow the game and keep it strong into the future.”
KDNA is currently open to sponsorship opportunities as it enters this next phase, with local businesses encouraged to get involved.
“We’re rebuilding with purpose, and we’d love to bring local businesses on that journey with us,” Ms Overton said.
