PICKERING Brook’s Jackson Shilling made a welcome return into the Hawks line up.

His early ruck work was dominant although it was the Tigers’ smaller on ballers that were taking advantage.

Midland’s Denver Roberts was reading the ruck taps better than anyone else.

After collecting the ball he either delivered it forward to advantage or weaved his way through traffic to kick a goal himself.

As one team seemed to be getting on top the other bounced back.

The Hawks held a one-point advantage at the first break.

The second quarter played out as another very even affair.

Midland Tiger Toban Higgins found plenty of space on a wing linking up with teammate Nicholas Murace in the forward line.

Tigers player Denver Roberts continued to display elusive footwork, sometimes backtracking to find space to go forward.

Pickering Brook’s Mitchell Johnston and teammate Brendyn Mcleish stood up as the Hawks’ main forward targets.

The Hawks hit the ground running to start the second half.

Hawk Jackson Shilling was moved forward in an attempt to use his height to advantage.

This move had an almost immediate impact as teammate Ben Bowness also started to collect several possessions around the midfield.

He passed the ball off to Pickering Brook’s Deklan Butterworth who delivered it high into the forward line to fellow Hawk Jackson Shilling’s waiting hands.

Midland player Nathan Troy Randall took advantage of limited opportunities, converting his kick at goal after receiving a pass from fellow Tiger Niklas Geracitano.

By the end of the quarter the Hawks had opened up a 27-point lead.

Midland showed that they were starting to tire as they were having difficulty making inroads into the deficit.

Tigers player Denver Roberts had run himself into the ground after his non-stop efforts during the first three quarters.

Fellow Tiger Renee Anderson managed to collect an early midfield possession delivering the ball forward to teammate Dylan White who managed to collect it and kick a goal.

From there the Hawks settled back into their momentum.

Pickering Brook’s Brendyn Mcleish closed out the game with his fifth goal.

Fellow Hawks Mitchell Shilling and Joshua Vellinga repelled most of Midland’s forward entries, keeping the Tigers down to another two goals during the rest of the game.

In the end Pickering Brook came away with the win after a very entertaining game.

Both teams showed great sportsmanship in giving each other a round of applause as they left the ground.

Next Sunday will see the start of the Hills Football Association final series at Mundaring Oval with the first game beginning at 12pm.
