HARSH weather conditions confronted Mundaring and Chidlow in their Hills Football Association round 13 encounter, which the Roos won 7.12 (54) to 6.8 (44).

The sparse group of loyal supporters huddled under the veranda in an attempt to keep warm and dry.

Oli Aitken was winning the ruck duels for Mundaring although it was Chidlow’s on-ballers who took advantage with Matthew Mallaby clearing the ball forward for the Cougars to score the first goal.

This became the early trend as they seemed to be adapting better to the conditions.

Steven Schorer, Brent Williams and Tyrone Offer combined to reduce the efficiency of most of the Roos forward entries.

The move of Robert Di Salvio onto the ball paid dividends as he along with Braeden Hilgert got the scoreboard ticking over for the Roos.

Two late goals slowed down Chidlow’s total dominance.

The second quarter started with Chidlow holding a 17-point lead.

Mundaring came out with a renewed vigour, although they were unable to take advantage of their forward dominance with one goal from eight attempts.

The Cougars backline was under constant pressure as the Roos players lined up to have a kick at goals.

Most of the Cougars’ forward entries were thwarted by Dylan O’Loghlen, Tyler Levitt and Harley Walter as they were kept to two behinds for the quarter.

Mundaring continued to control most of the play after the main break, again keeping the Cougars to two points for the third quarter while kicking two goals themselves.

Jake Forman was doing everything he could to lift his team, while Luke Elliott and Joshua Liddle offered solid support.

The Roos took a slender four point lead into the last quarter.

A result either way was still a possibility.

The Cougars were first to strike, briefly regaining the lead until Sateki A’Vard converted a forty metre snap on the run.

This was followed by another Roos goal giving them an 11-point lead, with minutes to play, a late shot on goal by Steven Shorer brought the winning margin to 10 points.
