MUNDARING defeated Mt Helena by 65 points on the weekend following on from their win over the Bulldogs in the previous round.

In their 22.10 (142) to 12.5 (77) victory Roo Austin Thomas was unstoppable, finishing the game with 13 goals.

Mt Helena’s Ryan Watters scored the first goal of the match.

Lion Bo Read was tasked with the role of matching up against Matthew O’Keefe in the ruck and showed that it was going to be a very competitive duel.

Roo Robert Di Salvio has regained his early season form after game time in the HFA country carnival team while Thomas was able to remain deep in the Roos forward line as they had a more steady start this week.

Mundaring held a 15-point lead at the first break after a see-sawing quarter.

But the Lions held their nerve when the Roos came out hard after the break and both teams went goal for goal.

Sateki A’Vard delivered the ball forward for Mundaring where Jamie Humble marked and kicked a goal.

Lion Riley Maturo had plenty of ground to cover as Thomas was prepared to cover a lot of ground offering leads to his midfielders as they drove the ball forward.

Matthew Ellwood managed to toe poke a goal through for the Lions.

After an accurate second quarter with five goals straight the Roos had slightly increased their lead to 19 points at the main break.

Mundaring came out after the break full of running as Jayk Jones and Dylan O’Loghlen worked their way into the game.

It seemed that every time the Lions kicked a goal the Roos replied with two of their own kicking exactly double the Lions third quarter tally.

Lachlan Walter teamed with Maitland Bol to foil several of Mt Helena’s forward moves.

Ryan Schwagereit continued to contest along with Brendan Agnew and Andrew Holness.

Ryan Watters scored another goal to bring his game tally to five.
