LOOKING for a win after their round one loss Bullsbrook settled first and kicked the first four goals of the game against Mt Helena before going on to win 20.14 (134) to 3.2 (20).
For the round seven Hills Football Association (HFA) match at Pickett Park last Sunday the Saints unveiled an Indigenous style guernsey bearing designs depicting the club and area.
The Saints James Thompson was winning the ruck contests allowing Christian Huggins, Jorden Heally and Jaiden Fernie to be able to collect and clear the ball forward where Brett Mckinlay was proving a handful for Lions Bo Reid and Riley Maturo.
The second quarter had the Saints applying more pressure around the contests.
The backline was holding firm, repelling most of Mt Helena’s advances.
In a surprise move Bullsbrook sent Sheldon Aplin back to cover Matthew Ellwood.
The Saints Blair Gregson showed he could be a handy backup to James Thompson in the ruck.
The Lions were still goalless at the main break while the Saints had opened up a 58-point lead.
The Lions moved Matthew Ellwood onto the ball looking for more drive, this paid early dividends as they scored the first two goals of the third quarter through Ryan Schwagereit.
Mt Helena’s Bo Reid was thrust into the ruck where he was competitive.
The quarter was then extended due to a Mt Helena player going down with a serious knee injury.
The Saints seemed to benefit from the break as they regrouped to control most of the play for the remainder of the third.
The last quarter saw the Saints kick further away with seven straight goals to the Lions one.
For Bullsbrook Brett Mckinlay topped off an all-round game with nine goals while the midfield group led by James Thompson all put in a solid four quarters.
The Lions Ryan Schwagereit continues to gain momentum after a lengthy lay off.
At the end of round seven Bullsbrook are sixth on the HFA ladder with Mt Helena in seventh place.
