SWAN Districts have won their way into the 2025 WAFLW grand final after being the form team of the competition in the back end of the season with a two-point preliminary final win over Subiaco.

Claremont and Subiaco held the top two positions in the WAFLW competition throughout the season, but Swan Districts came together impressively late winning the last five games of the home and away season to wrap up third place.

The Swans then went on to beat East Fremantle in the first semi-final ahead of setting up a match up in last Sunday’s preliminary final against Subiaco.

Swan Districts then started on fire with the only four goals of the first quarter before then holding on in a thrilling finish for the 6.4 (40) to 6.2 (38) victory.

The win means the Swans will go into this Sunday’s grand final against Claremont on a seven-game winning streak.

Emily McGuire kicked two goals in the win for Swan Districts with Carys D’Addario tremendous with 26 possessions, seven tackles and a goal.

Naomi Baker also gathered 18 possessions for the black-and-whites, Jaime Henry 15, Bella Edgley 14 and Summer Ajduk 13 to go with a goal.

Swan Districts made a scorching start to the preliminary final with the only four goals of the opening quarter starting when Carys D’Addario kicked the first goal of the match at the eight-minute mark.

Kayley King added another five minutes later with Emily McGuire then adding two of her own before quarter-time to see the Swans leading by 25 points.

Subiaco kicked their first goal of the game early in the second quarter before Emma Humphries responded for the black-and-whites to push their lead back out to 26 points, which became a 19-point advantage by the half-time break.

Things tightened up in the third quarter with only one goal scored and that went the way of Subiaco to cut the Swan Districts lead back to just 14 points at three quarter-time.

The Lions then also kicked the first goal of the fourth quarter but Swans responded courtesy of Summer Ajduk to be back out to a 14-point lead.

Subiaco then threw everything at a late comeback and kicked two goals to get it back to two points but Swan Districts held on in the finish to win and advance to the grand final.
