SWAN Districts’ round 18 win means they have now not lost in the WAFL for nine games this season to consolidate third position with a hard fought 20-point win at Bassendean oval against Subiaco.
The Black and Whites were able to wear down Subiaco as the afternoon unfolded and ended up kicking seven goals to two in the second half to score the 13.10 (88) to 10.8 (68) victory.
The result improves Swan Districts to a 10-4 record on the season along with their draw with South Fremantle last weekend to remain in third position with games now to finish against East Fremantle, Peel Thunder and Perth.
Luke Kelly came back into the team for Swan Districts and took his chances as a small forward kicking three goals as did spearhead Leigh Kohlmann along with Tom Edwards.
Nik Rokahr continued his form on the ball with another 42 possessions while Aidan Clarke racked up 30 disposals, Jye Chalcraft 29, Jesse Turner 28, Josh Cipro 25, Lewis Tester 21, Brad Lynch 20 and Brenton Hilton 20.
Will Collins had 25 possessions and 15 marks while ruckman Nathan Blakely provided 20 disposals, 31 hit outs and six tackles.
Subiaco made a fast start with the opening two goals of the contest inside the first six minutes, but Swan Districts were able to steady from there with the next two goals courtesy of Jye Chalcraft and Luke Kelly.
The Lions then kicked the next two goals through Ryan Borchet before Swans were able to hit back with the next two goals which were kicked by Jackson McLachlan and Leigh Kohlmann.
There was then another goal each before quarter-time with Wil Hickmott kicking one for Subiaco and Jesse Turner one for Swan Districts, and the scores were all level by quarter-time.
It then took 21 minutes for both teams to kick a goal each in the second term with Swans’ coming from Kelly, but then the Lions kicked the last two goals of the half including a third to Borchet which saw the visitors head into half-time leading by nine points.
Swan Districts came out strongly to start the second half with a couple of goals to Tom Edwards before Kohlmann added his second of the afternoon.
Swans would end up kicking the only three goals of the third quarter to turn that nine-point deficit into an eight-point lead before Kohlmann and Edwards kicked quick goals to start the final stanza as well.
Kelly and Brad Lynch also added last quarter goals with Swan Districts winning by 20 points.
