AFTER three straight defeats, Swan United FC overcame Ballajura AFC 3-2 in their recent Belt Up amateur premier division soccer clash.
The round 12, first-team fixture was closely contested at the Swan Italian Sporting Club in Francis Street, Middle Swan.
“We have been on a tough run the last few weeks so pleased to come away with the win,” Swan United coach Lee Taylor said.
“It wasn’t a great performance but the most important thing was picking up the three points and moving on from the last few defeats
“We have a lot to improve on but with players returning over the next few weeks our performances should improve.”
The hosts were in front after 14 minutes when John Monterosso raced on to a Thomas White through ball and finished neatly past the oncoming goalkeeper.
United doubled their lead midway through the second half when good work on the right side by Cameron Anderson saw him cut the ball back to Liam Merigan who finished with aplomb.
But Ballajura found a lifeline four minutes later with Shohab Shujai on target.
Swan regained their two-goal advantage 12 minutes from time when White was brought down by the keeper and the referee pointed to the spot.
Monterosso stepped up and made no mistake from the resulting penalty.
Daniel Clarkson did pull one back for Ballajura late on to make it a tense final few minutes, but Swan held firm to take the points.
