PICKERING Brook hosted ladder leaders Swan View for their Indigenous game and apart from a couple of soft patches the oval presented pretty well after Saturday’s torrential rain.

Both clubs and guests lined up for the pre-game traditional welcome to country and smoking ceremony.

After a massive first half Swan View won the Hills Football Association (HFA) round 16 game 15.9 (101) to 8.8 (56).

Many supporters turned out for what was a day of fine weather football with two masters games preceding the HFA game.

Swan View came out like a team possessed with six goals on the board before the Hawks managed their first.

Caleb Butler was having the better of the ruck duels against Jackson Shilling, allowing Raniera Carpenter first use of the ball.

Jeff Ladd marked strongly across his half forward zone getting the ball forward to where Dane Rossen capitalised with a close in goal.

Josh Hollingum crumbed just about every ball from spoiled marking contests cleverly playing the small forward role.

The Hawks had difficulty getting the ball into their forward line as Joseph Butler repelled several entries.

Jake Dyer roamed between the two half lines collecting possessions.

Riley Thompson slammed heavily with a behind post while attempting to mark the ball and looked like he was going to be finished for the game.

The Swans had opened up a 55-point lead by half time.

To most people’s surprise  Riley limped back out to take up the full forward role.

This seemed to lift the Hawks as they began to spend more time forward of centre.

He passed the ball off for Tristan Lilleyman to goal then scored one himself.

The Hawks outscored the Swans by 13 points for the quarter.

Steven Caccetta and Jack Giancono gained several possessions around the centre, while Harrison Giancono found space across the wing and half forward.

Jamie Soklich and Harley McInerny pushed back some of the Swans forward movements.

Joseph Butler was mobbed by his teammates after sneaking away from deep in his backline, to work his way forward and score a goal.

Two goals for each team in the last quarter.

The Hawks outscored the Swans in the second half, unfortunately they couldn’t make inroads into the lead that the Swans had set up during the first two quarters.

The 80th anniversary of the HFA finals series starts on Sunday, August 24 at Chidlow oval.
