
SWAN Districts came within a point of their first WAFL Women’s premiership since 2017, falling 3.6 (24) to 3.5 (23) to Claremont in a tight grand final on Sunday.
The 2025 grand final was played at Mineral Resources Park in Lathlain, where Claremont secured their third flag in four years and back-to-back premierships.
It was the first grand final appearance for the Swans since 2021.
They entered the match with seven consecutive wins, including finals victories over East Fremantle and Subiaco.
Swan Districts playing catch up for much of the contest but kicked the only goal of the final quarter to cut the margin to one point.
A tense final 15 minutes saw no further scores.
Forward Summer Yarran kicked all three goals for the Swans, finishing with 11 disposals and four marks.
Midfielder Carys D’Addario was strong through the middle with 25 disposals, nine tackles and six inside 50s.
Rising midfielder Jaime Henry recorded 22 disposals and an equal game-high 22 tackles, along with three marks and three inside-50 entries.
Other contributors included Tamzyn Beros with 11 disposals, Summer Ajduk with 11 disposals, 14 tackles, and ruck Lauren Quaife with 10 disposals, five tackles and 38 hit-outs.
The Tigers kicked the first goal of the game after early behinds from Swan forward Emily McGuire. At quarter time, Claremont led by four points and extended their lead to 10 before Yarran’s first goal cut it to seven by half-time.
Yarran added her second in the third term, bringing the margin back to one point before a late Claremont goal restored a seven-point buffer.
Her third goal five minutes into the last quarter brought the Swans within one, but the score remained unchanged.
All three finals involving Swan Districts this year were decided by two points or fewer, highlighting a closely contested finals campaign.
