EX-WEST Coast Eagle Troy Wilson has won every stage at the 2023 Tarmac West Rally Sprints in Malaga, Langley Park and Ellenbrook.
The first race kicked off Thursday night in Ellenbrook, transforming the shopping district into a street rally stage.
More than 6000 spectators gather to watch the spectacle. Wilson and his co-driver Brodie Kirwan in their 2010 Mitsubishi Evo X finished all four of their runs in around 1.10, culminating in a time of 4.39.08, 12 seconds ahead of second placed Matthew O’Neill and Kelly Thomas, racing in a 2006 Subaru WRX STi Spec C.
Sunday morning 3500 spectators gathered at Malaga to watch the action at the 5.85km stage, in which Wilson again finished his four laps the fastest.
Finishing all laps around the 3.30 mark, Wilson’s total time was 13.59.08. Second place Max Whiting and Savanna Maxted clocked 14.03.05 in their 1999 Subaru WRX, four seconds behind Wilson.
The series rounded out in Langley Park in the CBD, with the 15,000 strong crowd again watching Wilson and Kirwan take out first place honours.
Clocking their four laps at just below the 1.35 mark, their finishing time was 6.11.83, and 14 seconds ahead of second placed O’Neill and Thomas, who finished in 6.25.78.
After the race, Wilson said the races provided plenty of challenges, as his race in Malaga caused him tyre trouble due to their age.
“During the third run, the trye started to delaminate, I could hear it flicking, and luckily, we managed to finish,” he said.
However, it was a mistake he did not repeat in the third race, leading to his clean sweep of the series.
“I’ve never done drugs, I don’t drink, I don’t smoke, this is my drug,” Wilson said.
