Room to improve in the latest Midland Guildford round

Midland Guildford Cricket Club enjoyed positive results this weekend, celebrating wins across senior, female, and junior teams in a strong, balanced showing.

MIDLAND Guildford Cricket Club had some strong performances in a weekend that featured some positive results.

The senior male sides played their 50-over matches against Fremantle this weekend.

The male 1st grade side were defeated by five wickets, but the male 2nd grade team managed a six-run victory in a very close contest.

The batting innings of 187 all out was led by Austin Thomas with 58 runs from 81 balls, with Lennon Brookes leading the bowling effort with 2-29 from ten overs to help restrict their opponents to 8-181 from their 50 overs.

In the male 3rd grade match against the same opposition, the team were chasing 215 for victory after a bowling innings highlighted by Riley Gould with 3-27 from nine overs.

Clayton Thomas, with 50 from 49, and Kelly Jones, with 58 from 71, both scored half-centuries in the run chase as the side won with four wickets remaining.

The male 4th grade had a difficult match as they were defeated by eight wickets.

The senior female sides played T20 matches against South Perth, with the Female A Grade being beaten by seven wickets and the Female B Grade falling short by 12 runs in their chase of 169 for victory.

The female U17 were comfortable winners in their T20 match against Melville.

They restricted their opponents to 8-85 with an all-round bowling effort led by Amani Sharma with 2-9 from four overs.

The team had eight wickets to spare and 27 balls remaining as they passed the target score for victory.

The male U14 and male U13 played one-day matches against Subiaco Floreat with both sides claiming victory.

The male U14 posted 6-191 in a collective batting effort, before bowling out their opponents for 102 to secure an 89-run win.

In the male U13 match, the side scored 7-168 in the first innings and restricted the opposing side to 8-135 to claim victory by 33 runs.

There are opportunities to improve, but it was still a strong showing from a number of Midland Guildford Cricket Club sides this weekend.
