KOOKABURRA Cinema is under new ownership as the Kookaburra Collaborative Inc. take charge of operations following long-time operator Peter Foyster’s farewell to the iconic venue.
On October 21, hills residents Lyndsay Clement and Janette Huston were able to secure the support and funding to keep the outdoor cinema operating in the community.
Then the first meeting of the seven hills community members who would take ownership of the cinema, including Ms Clement and Huston, took place on October 26.
“It has been a non-stop whirlwind to get incorporated and documents sorted before the planned opening night of Friday, November 21,” Kookaburra Collaborative Inc. member Lori Myles said.
“That’s only one month since those first phone calls were made.”
The Kookaburra Collaborative Inc. said their vision for the cinema was to have it thrive as a community-led, not-for-profit cinema run by and for the hills community.
“As the cinema is a not-for-profit, we will be looking for volunteers to help on the nights and during the week,” they said.
“If you have skills you would like to share, please contact us.
“We would love to hear from you.”
