Media award for former Echo cadet

Former Echo Newspaper cadet journalist Andrew Williams has won the year’s top state cadet media prize for his work covering surveillance failings in the state justice system.

FORMER Echo News cadet journalist Andrew Williams has taken the Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance's (MEAA) Eaves-Prior-Day Prize award for new journalist or cadet at the recent awards ceremony.

Mr Williams who started his journalism career as a cadet at the Echo last year is now based with the ABC in Esperance.

He was recognised for several stories including his reporting on the revelation authorities were aware electronic monitoring of alleged violent offenders outside Perth was not possible.

Another former cadet journalist with the Echo Gera Kazakov has been based in Alice Springs for the last two years working for the NT News.
