MORE than 750 Perth Hills residents beat the heat at Kalamunda Water Park’s 10th annual School’s Out celebration, which helped children, young people of all ages and carers cool off in an afternoon of fun and entertainment by the water.
This marked one of the biggest turnouts during the summer holidays for the major community hub.
“The family-friendly event - made possible through partnerships with the City of Kalamunda and Youth Action Kalamunda, was designed to be the perfect celebration of summer,” Kalamunda Water Park duty manager Rhiannon Bowles-Payne said.
Youth Action Kalamunda, the City of Kalamunda’s Youth Advisory Group identified a gap in mental health and LGBTQIA+ support services within the community, and to address this OurPlace LGBTQIA+ Drop-in and Headspace Midland hosted information stalls and interactive activities to raise awareness of the support available to the community.
Families relaxed in shaded grassed areas and the wading pool, while younger children explored the toddlers’ splash park, and guests enjoyed unlimited rides on the park’s two giant tube slides, inflatable activities and laps in the 50 metre Olympic pool.
The celebration also featured DJ ARI-ON, an open-air photo booth by JustForKiks Entertainment, lawn games, a chillout zone and activities across the entire venue, ensuring plenty of entertainment on the day.
This year’s event also featured a fully catered kiosk, serving favourites like hot chips and ice cream to keep families cool and energised throughout the day.
“The kids were entertained from the moment we arrived and the whole park had such a fun, relaxed vibe. We’ll definitely be back next year,” said a parent who attended.
Youth Action Kalamunda is a group led by young people aged 11-17 who live, study, work or play in the City of Kalamunda and are passionate about making a difference to your community.
Kalamunda Water Park venue manager Liam Jenkins praised the collaboration behind the event and said the City of Kalamunda had been instrumental in helping bring this event to life at the venue since 2017, helping to deliver memorable experiences.
