
THIS year’s York Heritage Weekend will be held from Friday, April 24 to Monday, April 27 kicking off on the Friday at 6pm with a family concert in Avon Park.
The concert will feature local artists, so bring a picnic and chair and enjoy on the banks of the Avon River.
The festival will commemorate Anzac Day country style with the dawn service from 6am on stunning Mount Brown followed by the gunfire breakfast and Anzac service.
The York Town Hall displays open at 12 midday along with a talk by renowned historian Richard Offen on the history of photography.
Sunday is ‘Family Day’ starting with Sunday at Sandalwood including a Blues breakfast concert by Kerry B Ryan with tickets available at Humanitix.
It will be a full day with talks, displays and the amazing ride of the Penny Farthings along the Terrace, as well as the Mad Tatters Morris Dancers.
Children can make pizzas for lunch for the family at the Imperial Homestead or make a beeline for the CWA for a delicious Devonshire cream.
To round off the day Maggie’s Delight Bush Band is at the Imperial Homestead starting at 6pm.
There is no cover charge so grab something from their extensive menu and then kick up your heels and have some fun.
On Monday attendees can join the bus tour to Greenhills, with tickets at Humanitix at $20, which includes morning tea. Meet the new owners, hear their plans and tell tall tales of when this lovely building was a rowdy pub!
There will also be a fascinating talk on the restoration of a 1917 federation home by AJ and Sarah of Lilly Pilly Design at the Town Hall, which includes morning tea.
It will be the last chance to tour the displays and then have fun dressing up in the upstairs ‘boudoir’ and taking some fun photos
Visit Settlers Tavern to grab some lunch and discover the stories around the Amana plane crash in June 1950 that happened close to York and resulted in the total loss of life of all on board.
So much to do, most events are free but make sure you have some cash for donations and raffles.
