Comments sought on Mundaring draft policies

Residents are invited to comment on draft planning policies in Mundaring, shaping future development, signage and exemptions as part of the shire's broader planning framework.

RESIDENTS in the Shire of Mundaring are being invited to have their say on two draft local planning policies now open for public comment.

The draft policies relate to signage and advertisements, and exemptions from requiring development approval, and form part of the shire’s planning framework to guide how land is used and developed across the area.

The proposed signage and advertisements policy sets out which signs are exempt from development approval and provides guidance for assessing applications for non-exempt signage.

The exemptions policy outlines certain works that would not require development approval under the planning framework.

Local planning policies sit alongside the shire’s planning scheme and help shape decisions on new developments, including how buildings are designed, how land is subdivided and how projects fit within existing neighbourhoods.

They can also influence how environmental factors are managed, such as vegetation retention, bushfire considerations and the protection of natural landscapes.

The shire is seeking community feedback before the policies are finalised, giving residents, landowners and developers the opportunity to review the proposals and make submissions.

Submissions must be made in writing by 4pm on April 17 and can be lodged online via the Shire of Mundaring’s Engage platform, by post or by email to shire@mundaring.wa.gov.au.

The consultation process allows the community to help shape future planning decisions and ensure local priorities are reflected in the final policies.
