THE City of Kalamunda’s art scene is preparing for a major milestone celebration as the Zig Zag Gallery hosts its anniversary Art Gala and annual Art Award Exhibition, marking 15 years since the cultural hub first opened its doors.

Since its founding, the venue has established itself as a cornerstone of the Perth Hills creative community, having hosted more than 180 exhibitions and showcased the work of more than 300 artists across its 15-year history.

The inaugural Zig Zag Gallery Art Gala will celebrate this rich history by featuring artists from across the venue’s decade and a half long run, alongside the invitation of new artists to help celebrate all things creative in the City of Kalamunda.

The gallery will also host its annual Kalamunda Art Awards, an exhibition highlighting creative excellence across a diverse range of artistic media and themes.

The competitive exhibition provides a prominent platform for selected artists to display their work, offer pieces for sale to the public, and vie for recognition across several distinct judged prize categories.

While finalists compete for official accolades - including targeted awards for painting, sculpture, and environmentally focused works - gallery visitors will have the opportunity to directly engage with the event by casting their votes for the People’s Choice Award.

The celebration kicks off with the gala’s opening night at 6pm on Saturday, June 6.

Following the opening, the public will have three weeks to view the local talent on display, with the exhibition running from June 6 until June 28.

The Zig Zag Gallery is located in the Zig Zag Cultural Centre at 50 Railway Road, Kalamunda.

The gallery is open from 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday, and from 10am to 4pm on weekends.
