
CHIDLOW Cougars built momentum until they achieved a strong finish at the end of round 10 against the Midland Tigers.
The Tigers were first to score a goal after Denver Roberts managed to break through centre traffic to get the ball forward for fellow Tiger Toban Higgins to collect the loose ball and convert.
From there, the Cougars started to take control as Tim Huntley rebounded from deep in his backline while Cougars vice-captain Luke Elliott dominated in the air.
Cougars captain Jake Forman got the Cougars’ goal scoring underway.
Fellow Cougar Joshua Johnson showed early nerves in the ruck contests but once he settled down, he controlled most of the contests pinpointing teammates like Matt Mallaby.
Mallaby then ran the ball out of the middle, delivering it into the waiting arms of teammate Nathan Sutton who kicked accurately for goal.
Chidlow had scored an accurate seven goals one behind for the quarter to take a 24-point lead into the first break.
Injuries began to impact both teams afterwards as Cougar Tom Self was gone for the game with a calf injury after a solid start in the backline.
Mallaby was moved back onto the ball offering the Cougars even more drive as he managed to kick the ball forward for newcomer Deekyn Finnamore to mark and goal.
Higgins combined with fellow Tiger Jason Gericitano to offer Midland some needed spark.
The Cougars had managed to extend their lead to 33 points to start the third quarter which ended up being a dominant one for the Cougars who added six goals to one.
Cougar Max Daniels started to pick up more possessions around the contests and pinpointed Reece Forbes out on the wing.
He chipped forward then ran on to collect a handball finishing off with a goal after running the length of the ground.
Captain Forman showed his endurance by covering most of his forward line and adding another goal to his eventual tally of seven for the game.
The Tigers showed character in the last quarter as they stayed with Chidlow on the scoreboard, kicking four goals each.
Francis Dorizzi, Renee Anderson and Roberts were solid contributors all game for the Tigers.
While for the Cougars, it was Nathan Sutton with six goals, Max Daniels for his nonstop run and Jake Forman for his all-round performance, including his seven goals.
Round 10 was Think Mental Health round, which was a round dedicated to raising suicide awareness.
Captain Forman was awarded the Think Mental Health game ball after being voted as Best on Ground.
