THE Mundaring RSL sub-branch held a combined Victory in the Pacific (VP) and Vietnam Veterans’ Day commemoration service last Saturday at the Mundaring community Men’s Shed.
The highlights of the evening were a special one hour musical performance by the 30-piece Parkerville community band – playing music from the era – and a formal Last Post ceremony.
Parkerville community band spokesperson Yvonne Blyth said the event was in memory of the end of WWII and the 60th anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan.
The event was attended by more than 40 people including Midland-based MLC Klasey Hirst, Bullwinkel MP Trish Cook and RSL WA board member Matt Moran.
“Mundaring RSL sub-branch president Eric Smith was the flag bearer on the night and Parkerville community band conductor Peter Hind was the bugler for the official ceremony,” Ms Blyth said.
She said the Shire of Mundaring also supported the event financially with a grant to cover the refreshments and entertainment.
