MUNDARING Seniors earlier this month celebrated a very special milestone – 55 years of bringing seniors together through friendship, recreation and community connection.

Members, life members, invited guests, community representatives and supporters gathered at The Hub of the Hills on Wednesday, August 19 to mark the significant anniversary.

The celebration was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the organisation’s history and recognise the many people who have contributed to its success over the past 55 years.

Established in 1971, Mundaring Seniors Incorporated has continued to provide a welcoming environment where older members of the community can come together, enjoy recreational activities, make new friendships and maintain strong social connections.

Over the past 55 years the association has grown from providing Meals on Wheels, bingo, dances, handicraft, podiatry services, cards, billiards and many other activities to becoming a vibrant community offering indoor carpet bowls, outings, social events and lasting friendships.

The anniversary afternoon reflected the spirit of the organisation, with carpet bowls, afternoon tea and plenty of reminiscing and laughter.

Members and guests shared memories of years gone by and celebrated the friendships that have been formed through the organisation.

A particular focus of the celebration was recognising the contribution of the organisation’s life members and long-serving members, whose dedication and voluntary service have helped shape Mundaring Seniors into the organisation it is today.

Barbara Heasman and Charlie Nokes were acknowledged as the association’s longest-serving life members, along with the newest life members John and Carole Parsons who had the honor of cutting the 55th anniversary cake.

President Ross Biddle said the anniversary was not only a celebration of the past, but also a recognition of the importance of keeping seniors connected within the community.

“Fifty-five years is a wonderful achievement for a community organisation, but what makes it truly special is the people who have been part of our journey,” Mr Biddle said.

“Mundaring Seniors is about friendship, belonging and giving people the opportunity to remain active and connected. The commitment of our members and volunteers over the years is what has kept our organisation strong.”

The organisation also took the opportunity to acknowledge the support it has received from local community organisations, businesses, elected representatives and other supporters who have recognised the valuable role seniors play in the community.

The anniversary celebration comes at an important time for Mundaring Seniors as the organisation looks towards the future and continues its efforts to provide accessible activities and opportunities for seniors across the Shire of Mundaring.

One of its current priorities is the fundraising and grant campaign for a new community bus, complete with a wheelchair lift and electric step, so members of all abilities can continue to enjoy outings and activities together.

The replacement bus will help ensure members can continue to participate in excursions, social activities and community events, with improved accessibility and modern safety features.

As Mundaring Seniors looks beyond its 55th year, its commitment remains the same – to provide friendship, connection and opportunities for seniors to remain active and involved in their community.

After 55 years, the friendships continue, the memories continue to grow, and Mundaring Seniors continues to look forward to the years ahead.
