PRESEASON training has commenced at the Midland Guildford Cricket Club, with the under 13’s first grade already in the nets in preparation for another big summer at Lilac Hill.
Tom Beaton, who used to play for the Melbourne Renegades in the T20 Big Bash is one of the players for MGCC’s first grade team and said the club is ready to support the younger players who are joining the club.
“Midland Guildford is an inclusive club that promotes the development of elite cricketers from the region,” he said.
Two of those rising stars are Jack Markham and Levi Collet, who are excited for the upcoming cricket season.
Jack will enter his fourth year at the club, moving up to the U17 squad after captaining the U15 last year.
“This club has a proud history which we are taught from the day we enter.
“We learn about local Australian stars like Brendon Julian, Jo Angel, Simon Katich, Tony Mann and our current national player Alana King. We have a strong tradition to honour and learn from.”
MGCC club president John Gartrell is excited for the new season to start, and said the club is fortunate to have some great sponsors for the upcoming season.
“We are fortunate to have some great local sponsors supporting us to provide a professional environment for young cricketers to develop both on and off the field,” he said.
Lovreta Estate will be one of the sponsors, with director Tony Lovreta stating he is pleased to sponsor a club with such a proud history.
“Today I am proud to announce the start of our support for local premier cricket, with the sponsorship for the boys and girls at Midland Guildford.”
