YORK and District Archery Club is an exciting new sporting club which opened earlier this year in Talbot.
The club is a not-for-profit community, membership-based sports club offering a new sporting experience for York, the surrounding districts and outer areas, with members already travelling from Mundaring, Wundowie, Northam, Beverley, Bickley and Brookton.
York and Districts Archery now has a five-target practice range and a 20-target field archery range meandering through the beautiful bush.
Club president Albert Gentleman said the club’s goal was to promote a new, safe recreational sport for all ages and skill levels within a fun family friendly social environment – a time to get outdoors to the bush, relax and get away from our busy lifestyle.
Friendly competition is included with scoring, and at special archery events both in-house and Interclub host novelty fun shoots for all the family as well.
“Already we have a growing membership and visiting archers keen to meet the challenge. We invite all people interested in archery and those who would like to learn a new sport to come and have a go,” Mr Gentleman said.
Beginner’s lessons are available and arranged with instruction, demonstration and practice afterwards, along with hire equipment.
In April the ‘Come & Try Day’ event for beginner archers was quite successful with both adults and children attending, and the club holds fortnightly shoots alternating between Saturdays and Sundays.
“I would also like to pay special thanks to the Shire of York, York Community Bank, CWA and our local businesses and sponsors for their support and especially for the many long volunteer hours of help given to the club,” Mr Gentleman said.
