TWO AFL players with strong ties to Northam Federals Football Club have played in the biggest game of their life over the weekend, with one taking away the highest honour of the match.

Northam-born Bobby Hill walked away with the Norm Smith medal in the 2023 grand final, after his four goals helped his team Collingwood walk away with a nail biting four-point win over the Lions in front of 100,000 at the MCG.

Competing for Brisbane, Northam born Deven Robertson showed his value for Brisbane with one goal, 13 disposals and two clearances in a hard-fought game.

Federals Club president Mick Casey said seeing players not only associated with Federals but also representing Northam on the big stage was a sight to behold.

“We really weren’t barracking for any club except those two players,” he said.

Mr Casey said both have strong ties to the club, with both their dads playing against each other once upon a time.

Mr Casey said that Bobby Hill played footy with the Federals until he was 15-years-old.

Deven Robertson, on the other hand, has strong connections to the club through his dad and uncle, who are former captains of the club and his grandfather also played for the club.

“We did have him arranged (to play) for one week but it fell through, but we still class him as our own,” he said.     

He said Bobby Hill’s performance on the weekend was spectacular and the Norm Smith medal was well deserved.

“What we seen on Saturday we’ve pretty much seen that since U9 and U11.

“(Bobby’s) been doing that ever since I’ve known him,” he said.   

The Pies defeated the Lions 12.18 (90) to 13.8 (86).
