CREATIVES from Midland Disability in the Arts, Disadvantage in the Arts, Australia (DADAA), in collaboration with Outcome Unknown will be performing at the Blue Room Summer Nights on Saturday, January 20, at 4.30pm.

The event, The Edge of Reality, aims to showcase experimental music from the unseen and the unheard in a night of incantatory spoken-word and experimental music by two acts working on the margins.

The Definitives are the resident band at DADAA Midland.

This motley crew of poets and visual artists draw on their lived experience of mental illness to create whimsical vignettes propelled by freewheeling rhythms.

The group works with processed guitar, bass, and synthezisers while their spirited performances consist of stories being told and then pulled apart in a wild chorus of sounds, voices, and occasionally, laughter.

Their work has been hailed by experimental music legend Robbie Avenaim, while collaborations with local musicians Josten Myburgh, Annika Moses and Eduardo Cossio have brought the band a word of mouth following.

The second act will see Jenny Hickinbotham team up with the experimental musicians Plyanci and Scientia to present a new collection of songs featuring ambient electronics and fluid pulses.

Jenny draws on multiple voices, perspectives, and temporalities to explore mental ill-health with pathos and playfulness.

Outcome Unknown, run by Eduardo Cossio, presents experimental music concerts in Perth.

The monthly series platforms emerging and established artists from diverse musical backgrounds.

DADAA partners and works with emerging and established artists, communities, arts organisations, local and state governments, and not-for-profits to produce community arts and regional development projects with focus on inclusion and capacity building – taking the voices of people with disability to audience and communities.
