SWAN Districts were back to form in the WAFLW on Saturday with a stirring 25-point victory against Claremont at Bassendean oval.

Swans had lost their past two games of the WAFLW season coming into the match up against a Claremont team so far undefeated in 2024 and not having lost a game in the home and away season since the end of 2022.

So that meant the task was ahead of Swan Districts on Saturday but they were more than up to the challenge kicking the first six goals of the contest and holding Claremont goalless through the first three quarters.

Swans went on to a 7.5 (47) to 3.4 (22) victory giving them a 4-4 record for the season with the competition now taking a general break this weekend for the state game against South Australia on Saturday afternoon.

There were plenty of standout performers in the Swan Districts win including Taylah Edwards and Emily McGuire kicking two goals apiece.

Eliza Gelmi finished the afternoon with 19 possessions also for Swans with Emma Humphries racking up 19 disposals to go with six tackles and five inside-50 entries.

Isabella Edgley also picked up 19 disposals for the black-and-whites, Carys D’Addario 18, Lily Paterson 16 and Ava Stewart 16 while Tamzyn Beros had 22 hit outs in the ruck to go with 10 possessions.

Claremont might have come into the contest undefeated so far in 2024, but it was all Swan Districts to start the match up on Saturday with the opening five scores of the game.

That included the first goal at the seven-minute mark thanks to Taylah Edwards and then three minutes later Carys D’Addario also kicked truly with the Swans leading by 14 points at half-time.

The lead continued to grow to start the second quarter as well for Swans starting with a first goal to Courtney Zappara before Emily McGuire added another and suddenly the lead was out to 25 points in favour of the black-and-whites.

That was still the margin in favour of Swan Districts heading into half-time and then it was out to 31 points to start the second half.

Edwards kicked a second later in the quarter and Swans were out to a 38-point advantage to be in total control.

Claremont did manage three goals in the first 14 minutes of the final term, but Swan Districts had done enough and then McGuire confirmed the 25-point victory with her second goal shortly before the final siren.
