A STRONG third quarter from Mundaring set them up for an arm-wrestling contest against Gidgegannup in the final quarter with the Roos winning 11.16 (82) 9.12 (66).

Gidgegannup opened the scoring at Mundaring Recreation Ground after Riley Marriott combined with Jarrod Young to get the ball forward where Tim Tanner took a strong mark to then convert his kick on goal.

Bulldog Declan Whife was going to be in for a testing day in the ruck against the high leaping Matthew O’Keefe.

By the first break the Bulldogs had five goals on the board to the Roos one, holding a 22-point lead.

The Roos started to chip away at the lead as Sateki A’Vard along with Dylan O’Loghlen cleared the ball forward from the contests, Austin Thomas was moved further up the field from his usual deep forward role allowing Clayton Thomas to slip deep into the forward line and score a goal.

Bulldog Liam Marriott helped Alan Rigg and Josh Carter to repel several Roos forward advances but by the main break Mundaring had reduced the margin to 11 points.

Roo Tyler Levitt has probably found himself a new position as he slotted into the backline like as if he had always played down there, picking up several possessions driving the ball back over the centreline while Hudson Knight and Matthew Pittaway created scoring options.

The momentum had quickly swung and Mundaring moved to a 16-point lead at the last change.

The fast tempo along with the big ground was starting to impact on the players leading to tiredness starting to set in.
The game became an arm wrestle with the ball spending most of the time in dispute between the two half lines.

A’Vard continued to work hard while Tim Tanner and Dylan Cahill ran the game out hard for the Bulldogs.

Both teams scored two goals and four points in the last quarter allowing the Roos to maintain their three quarter time lead and come away with the win.
